NOMI — A Cooking Companion App for Solo Renters

NOMI is a mobile cooking app that helps people who live alone waste less food, spend less money, and cook more at home. Built around three principles — stop waste at the supermarket, make sustainable choices effortless, and make every decision obvious — it combines a smart shopping list that filters out staples you already own, a “one photo, one portion” feature that suggests gram amounts from WRAP UK solo-portion data (replacing an abandoned AR concept after user testing), and a leftover-reuse loop that turns unfinished ingredients into the next meal's recipes. Grounded in UN SDG 12.3, the project spans user research, a six-round iterative prototyping process, a full design system, and a two-stage business model.
